The Hannover Innovation & Technical Center (HITeC) was opened in October 2019. This modern building offers workspace for a variety of departnemts from research and development to sales administration.

The assembly line for the axles is a copy of our parent company in Japan.


We build up to four axle pairs per day. This demands highest skills from our employees, due to exact adjustments at the assembly line of those important components.

Currently, we can produce 12 compact wheel loaders a day or 8 wheel loaders in the size of a WA200 up to WA320 or 7 big wheel loaders above WA320.

Drilling machine


After welding the components go into the drilling machine.


There the holes are overworked as there might be some torsions due to heating up and cooling down the metal during the welding process in addition the components are deflashed.

EMCO machine


As you can see in this area we are renewing our machine stock.


This Emco machine is one of our latest additions in the welding shop. We implement those machines into digitised workflows that cause reduced lead times.


In addition we are able to create more production output in less space and with the same amount of employees than before. But it is very important to mention that the decisions are still made by humans and this is why our highly qualified employees are indispensable.

EMCO machine


The Emco machine is our newest machining centre in the component shop and was a big step towards "digitalisation 4.0".


The machine is able to handle the rough parts autonomously and changes the tools by itself.

End of axle assembly / test bench


At the end, every single axle gets serial number. The production history is documented and stored in a digital way so that our diffentent departments are able to have a look inside if necessary.


The production of the axles works paperless already.

Engine mounting


Our wheel loader assembly line has a length of about 120 m. At this point you can see the pre-assembly of the engines coming from the side to the assembly line.

Engine rebuild


In December 2020 KGC implemented the engine rebuild process in Hannover. By customer request we rebuild an engine suitable for its machine and therewith prolong the machine lifetime.

Engine test bench


After the engine is rebuilt, all functionalities are checked on this test bench in order to guarantee the well known Komatsu quality and reliability for this important part of a machine.

Finish & completion


Our internal final inspection is done by using a checklist, which has a duration from 1-1.5 hours.


If the machine is fine it is forwarded to the finish where some special options or decals are attached.

Goods receiving area


In this area the goods get unloaded from the arriving trucks.


The boxes get repacked on an ergonomic working height and redistributed over the guide rail to their storage yard.


With the recycling of euro and plastic pallets as well as of some cartons we make sure not to waste resources and contribute to a healthy environment.

In the left area of our high rack warehouse processed components like cast parts or gearboxes are stored.

Hydraulic and brake test


When the machines left the assembly line, they get through several tests done by our quality assurance department.


First of all they check the hydraulic components, like for example the movement of the boom.

KPDF stands for Komatsu diesel particulate filter, which are cleaned up in this area after 4500 and 9000 hrs of use.


There are two sizes of filters. To clean the particle filters takes about 2.5h for a small one and about 4h for a big one.

Kitting area


The kitting area serves to pre-collect and allocate all the small parts and modules per machine for the different working places on the assembly line.


The parts are provided on the blue carriages and get to be delivered to the production in a 2 h cycle. Thanks to this system, we were able to reduce the working time at assembly lines up to 30%.

PW boom mounting


After the excavators passed the gas station and are filled with fuel, oil and every fluid they need to work properly, they absolve their first engine start.


Afterwards the boom and arm is mounted, which is done at this point.

PW cabin mounting


Our mobile excavator assembly line has a length of about 100 m.


Right now we are at the very beginning of the assembly line.


Here you can see how the cabin is mounted and the corresponding pre-assembly next to the line itself.

PW undercarriage mounting


The upper structure and under carriage are pre-assembled separately and connected with a "marriage", which takes place at this point in the manufacturing process.


From now on, the excavator drives by itself.

Paint shop


After the parts leave our welding shop, they get colourised in our paint shop.


We use water-based paints for painting that are just as durable but more environmentally friendly. Of course we offer as well special colours to our customers.

Pick up area


Once ready for shipment the machines which are supposed to be picked up within the next few days are parked in this dedicated area.

R&D


This building is used for our research and development activities and also hosts our European Techonolgy Center (EUTC).


All the development activities for the mobile excavators and compact wheel loaders manufactured in Hannover are done here as well, close to the market.

Roller bench test


All machines are tested in detail on our large roller bench test.


The test contains all the driving functions which takes approx. 1 - 1.5 hours.


Our test bench in Hannover is one of the largest in the whole of Europe.

Safety dojo


To avoid accidents and reduce injuries, our employees get safety training once they start a new job in our plant and as well later on a regular base in our safety dojo area.


The safety dojo has its own training room for the theoretical lessons as well as a more practical area, where examples can be demonstrated and tested.


Some highlights are the "obstacle course" where we want to raise the awareness for potential risks of stumbling and as well the collected devices which should demonstrate how NOT to use heavy lifting equipment.

Shipment


In the shipment area the machines are primed an get their last quality check. Buckets are fit and manuals are arranged.

Simulator room


One of our highlights in the HITeC: Our simulator room with a WA470 and a PW180 simulator. You are able to test the machines with everyday working conditions.


The moving seat and the original equipment gives you a realistic machine feeling.


The shown environment in which you can operate the machines is a replication of our test and demo area in Hannover.

Stapling bucket


Just as the frames, the buckets are also an inhouse product fom KGC.


The single parts are fixed and stapled on a special device and are heated, before they move to the welding robot.


150 different buckets can be manufactured at our site in Hannover.

Stapling rear frame


Now we are in our welding shop. At this point we put all the needed parts for the rear frame in the correct position together for stapling.

Touch-up


If the machine passed the finish and completion area, they get their last paint touch-up in this area, where we use a special air con in order to create a healthy environment for our employees and to grant the optimal circumstances for the paint to dry.


Afterwards the machines are forwarded to the shipment area.

Transmission assembly


The transmission assembly is located in an extra room of the component shop.


This was done in order to create a concentrated working atmosphere with less background noise and to reduce the air pollution to a minimum.


Currently we assemble 2-3 transmissions per day.

Transmission test bench


After the assembly every transmission is tested on our test bench.


Every gear at every speed is tested and also the switching operation.


The computer captures the results digitally and releases the transmission after the test.

VR room


Machines and prototypes can be shown virtually and you are able to disassemble every single part.


Customer requests and needs can be shown and tested in a clean and safe environment even if it is no standard option and production did not start, yet.

Warehouse


Now you are in front of our warehouse, which was build in 2007. The intention was to create a central warehouse with an efficient inventory control.


On an area of 13,300 m², 25,500 parts are stored with a total value of about 23M €.

Welding robot


To grant highest quality and precision we are using several welding robots. 90% of the weldseams can be done by the robots in a minimum of time. Like that it is possible to produce more parts with a lower lead time and the same employment of staff.



Please note: this picture does not show the way we are usually working. The doors of the welding robot were opened for you to allow a better view behind the scenes, only. During normal operation doors are always closed for safety reasons once the robot is working.

Wheel mounting


Now we are at the very end of the 120 m long wheel loader assembly line.


The wheel mounting for our wheel loaders which take place at this point works with a just-in-sequence delivery.


The tires and the rims are prepared separately before they are mounted to the machine. After leaving the assembly line another quality check is done as well.
